Roadmap to Career Development

Career Development

Career development in technical communication, like that of other fields, requires that a communicator select a field, often called a domain, in which to concentrate writing. Some professionals call this a specialty, implying a specific work environment such as information technology, corporate communication, health communication, or government policy writing.  New technical communicators can learn about the field through formal classes as well as through developmental activities such as special projects, service-learning projects, or apprenticeships.
